So that's why this lovely photo of the port from my window was taken around 0808.
A breakfast at the bakery around 1025.A quick wander around town before my bus around midday turned up these posters depicting a pilgrim and his dog on the camino. The Camino Norte runs through Llanes. One problem is that pilgrims with dogs are not common as far as I have observed. The other problem is that if the Atlantic is to the north, then the pilgrim is headed the wrong way, towards the east, when he should be heading west towards Santiago de Compostela.
This one is more plausible. If the mountains are to the south then he is heading west.Still, the pictures are cute.
About 30 minutes on the bus and I arrived at Ribadesella. The bus station is on the east bank of the formidable River Sella. The town is divided by the river. On the east are most of the shops, and most of the lodgings are on the west. Unfortunately they were doing maintenance on the bridge (from which I took this photo) so vehicular traffic was single lane, subject to delays, and pedestrian crossings were a bit fraught.
After checking into my hotel which is on the beachfront, I wandered down to Playa de Santa Marina, a magnificent long stretch of sand. This is the view to the west. And this is the view to the east.Squashing all of the beach into one curved panorama. In the evening I set out to get dinner in the town side of the river and noticed this large island of vegetation in the river. It's wide enough for that to happen. Most of the restaurants in this town were upmarket. Eventually I found a place serving Italian meals. The meals were delivered with plastic plates and cutlery. But it was edible.
The harbour is attractive with lamplight. The bridge is on the left and the beach part of the town on the other side of the river. The quayside promenade.Another section. There is a lane leading to a inner street with more eating establishments.
