I enter the Basque Country

It is still almost 3 hours by train from Bordeaux to Hendaye. The express that took me there was probably a continuation of the one that brought me from Paris. Thus it was that it was late afternoon when I disembarked at Hendaye SNCF station.

It looked like a pretty seaside town and I wished that I had allocated a day to it. No time even for the suggested coffee and cake before the transfer.

I then walked several metres west to the Hendaia terminus station of the San Sebastian Metro for a local. I got my ticket from a vending machine, paying by tapping my card.

The reason the French line doesn't continue into Spain is due to the different gauge of their tracks.

About an hour later I arrived at San Sebastian's Amara Station. It was late in the afternoon but it was still light and cool. Spain is on the same timezone as France.

I took a brisk walk to my backpacker accommodation. I needed to get there before check-in closed. The lady at the counter wanted to leave work soon and rushed me through the check-in but fortunately I had done most of the paperwork online.

Next up, dinner.
