In northern Spain, buses rather than trains are the main public transport. The bus dropped me off at the bus station, just outside the town. It was a short walk downhill to the town centre and its harbour looking just like I had previewed on the web. I checked into my hotel and waited until late afternoon before exploring the area to the west.
This is the Playa de El Sablón, a small beach facing the Atlantic while the town is centred on a sheltered habour running roughly west-east. The blue building on the right is the Hotel Sablón. I had considered staying there but decided it wasn't as convenient as Hotel Puerto Rico in the centre. The beach faces roughly west-east, like the harbour. There was hardly anybody at the beach, it being late in the day with the light weakening, and a Sunday. The tide seemed to be going out.I took many views of the beach; it must have taken my fancy. I ascended the path to the headland and got this view of the beach and the mountains backing Llanes.A wide view. The hotel and the buildings between it and the town centre.I'll start a new post on the coastal walk along the top of the cliff as the scenery is wilder with the ocean waves.
