Luarca Town

The bus took continued on the road we arrived on, going downhill towards the town centre. Halfway down the hill we stopped at this landmark Mesa de los Mareantes (Table of the Seafarers). These are 14 ceramic panels that narrate the history of Luarca from the 9th to the 19th centuries.

This is the slate table behind which is a panel depicting a meeting of sea captains in the 15th century where they shared information and news for mutual benefit.

A closer look at the panel without the tour group obscuring.

A wide view of the scene.

A glimpse of the harbour downhill.

From there we walked downhill taking in the views of the harbour as we meandered down Calle Atalaya.

More and more of it revealed.

Sheltered harbour. Just as well, apparently there are strong winds in autumn.

Trying to fit it all in one panorama.

The group getting their sea level photos.

Another view.

Boats.

More boats.

Still more boats.

Restaurants and shops for a change.

Just in case you forgot where you took the photos.

Kids (and adults) love these giant letters.

At this point the guide told us we had free time to get outselves lunch and wander around, and to meet at the bus station to be taken to the next destination.

Musicians were relaxing in a nearby park.

The bandstand, probably for the evening.

I took a walk along the bank of Rio Negro, a bit dried up, and this looking back at Plaza Alfonso X El Sabio where the bandstand was.

And this is further upstream from a road bridge. The elevated road in the background is Calle Párrocco Infanzón which goes up to the headland where the lighthouse we saw is.

I found lunch in an eatery near the bus station where at the appointed time our group reboarded the bus.
